Context. What is context? Well, according to Webster dictionary, it means

: the words that are used with a certain word or phrase and that help to explain its meaning

: the situation in which something happens : the group of conditions that exist where and when something happens

I would say that is a pretty good definition, and according to that definition, it would appear that “context” is a really important thing to have a firm grasp of in order to make an educated decision, or in order to understand a certain situation. Oddly enough, context is one of the few things we don’t have here in this country, at least not anymore.

If you go back into the annals of history, and look at all of the different empires, nations, countries, and people groups, you will always see one thing in common. Struggle. I’m not saying that we haven’t had our struggles here in America, but if you look at history as a whole, the last 60 years or so of relative peace that we have had in this country are the exception, not the norm. No where in history, do you see a nation like us. And I personally think that has caused us to lose our perspective.

If you go online, and look up the percentage of Americans that are on some form of psychotropic medication, it’s astounding. I see people everyday that have to take some type of tranquilizers in order to leave their own house. Otherwise they would have some form of incapacitating anxiety attack. The fact of the matter is that, in most other countries in the world, this same person would have had to learn to cope without drugs, or they simply would not have survived to adulthood.

We are one of the wealthiest nations in the world, but have the most depressed people. Something is not right folks. Maybe the Lord didn’t intend us to actually live this way?
